Our Services

Comprehensive Physical Examinations:
Early detection of health problems can allow for prompt treatment. At least
once, and perhaps twice per year if your pet has chronic health issues, they should have a thorough physical
examination. Remember, your pet's lifespan is shorter than ours and their health
can change significantly over a 12-month period.
Vaccinations and Preventative Medicine:
Due to the many recent discoveries and innovations in veterinary medicine your
pet can be protected against most major infectious diseases. Today many
immunizations and preventative treatments are available that did not exist a
decade ago. The staff at The Paxton Animal Hospital can assist you in deciding
which preventative measures are necessary for your pet. We use only the higest quality for our vaccinations to ensure there is nothing extra going into your pet that should not be there.
Puppy and Kitten Examinations and Vaccinations:
Young puppies and kittens should receive their physical examination and first
set of vaccinations between six to eight weeks of age. After this, additional exams and
vaccinations are given every three to four weeks until they are twelve to sixteen
weeks old. Thereafter regular annual booster vaccinations should be given. During your
pet's initial examinations you will also receive behavioral advice, nutritional
counseling, and recommendations on disease prevention. This advice can go a long
way towards preventing problems in your pet's adult life and ensuring their time with you is everything it should be.
Senior Wellness Programs:
In
recent years great strides have been made in recognizing the special needs and
requirements of our "senior citizen" dogs and cats, those that have reached their 8th birthday. Doctor Wang is well
equipped with the knowledge and diagnostic tools to identify age related
problems and formulate realistic strategies to allow your pets to live longer and
healthier lives. These problems tend to get worse the longer they are left undetected. We will be happy to discuss with you our recommendations for geriatric
testing.
Surgical Care:
Our hospital
is well-equipped to perform most minor and major surgical procedures from spays
and neuters to more complicated emergency, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries.
Prior to
surgery each patient receives a thorough physical examination to identify any
existing medical conditions that might endanger your pet's health. Because not
all problems can be detected on examination, we perform preanesthetic blood testing. These tests not only give us a more complete picture of your
pet's health but also allow us to tailor an anesthetic regimen that is appropriate
for your pet.
We offer a
wide variety of anesthetic protocols tailored to your pet's individual needs. Generally we anesthetize with PROPOFLO, and maintain exclusively with SEVOFLURANE. These medications are used for their well documented safety, and fast metabolic action to help your pet recover faster. They are what is used in human medicine, including pediatrics! Please discuss these options with our staff. We also
utilize a variety of anesthetic monitoring devices including Doppler blood
pressure monitors, respiratory monitors and other cardiac monitoring equipment.
Pain
management is an important part of our pre, intra and post-operative protocols. All surgical patients including
those undergoing routine procedures such as an ovariohysterectomy or castrations
receive pain control medications. We urge you to discuss operative pain
management options with our staff.
Dental Services and Teeth Cleaning:
Proper
dental care is as important for your pet as it is for you. In addition to
preventing bad breath and periodontal disease, it can also prevent infection from
spreading through the blood stream to your pet's liver, kidneys and heart. This
bacterial shower can lead to permanent organ damage affecting your pet's overall
health.
Nutritional Counseling:
Dogs and cats are not omnivores like we are; their digestive tract must stay within a tighly regulated pH range. Feeding them processed foods that have a high corn content disturbs this balance. In addition, the source of protein in these foods are not of the best composition for your dogs and cats. There is also evidence to suggest feeding diets of these foods significantly increases the chance of developing tumors in later years.
We recommend feeding your animals the way Nature intended- with either the raw diet or a low grain diet. Manufacturers of these foods such as Abady, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Taste of the Wild and others like them take the time to create their foods with top quality ingredients, and stand behind their products. While these foods cannot be bought in the grocery store or big box stores, local pet shops such as ELLIE'S PET BARN in Holden, TATNUCK PET in Worcester and MAGGIE'S FOODS FOR PETS in West Boylston keep them in stock, and are more than willing to help you find the right diets for your pets.
Feedings these foods provides immediate health benefits in coat appearance, activity level, ear problems, muscle development and so much more. So while the food may cost more, there is a long term savings in not needing as many medications and visits to see Doctor Wang. (Not that we don't want to see you!!)

Acupuncture:
While in China Doctor Wang studied Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), including acupuncture. He brings this knowledge of herbs and how you diagnose problems to his practice every day with great results. Recently after learning how acupuncture has been introducted into the United States, he has reinvigorated his knowledge on the subject and is now offering acupunture to his clients.
Acupuncture uses needles and in some cases lasers to stimulate certain points along the meridians of the body, which in TCVM is called jing luo. This stimulation treats diseases by unblocking the bodies energy, boosting the immune system and decreasing inflammation.
